I have always believed that it is natural and normal to eat meat and that being vegetarian is not necessarily the correct or better way to live. But I have learnt a lot through this project about the way most of the meat we consume today is being produced. In industrial farms of enormous scale where animal and human lives are given little respect. The reason these industrial scale facilites exist is simple – to satisfy our extremely large and ever growing apetite for meat.
Though eating meat is perfectly natural the way that we are producing that meat is not and it is not something our planet can sustain.
So I decided that I will only eat meat that I know has not been produced in this industrial fashion. This has meant that I have become pretty much vegetarian and so far it hasn’t changed a thing in my life.
It is an interesting experience. In most cases I would probably have chosen vegetarian food anyway, but having this new line that I cannot cross is making me more aware in my choices.
